I almost quit football after missing out of 2014 World Cup squad – Ideye

Former West Brom forward, Brown Ideye, revealed he almost quit the national team after his exclusion from the 2014 FIFA World Cup squad.

Ideye was one of the notable names omitted from the Mundial in Brazil by the late Stephen Keshi, despite playing an important role in his 2013 African cup of Nations winning squad in South Africa.

Now plying his trade with Aris Thessaloniki of Greece, Ideye told www.brila.net in an exclusive interview that no one explained the decision to exclude him from the tournament.

“I don’t know why they did not pick me, I don’t know why I was dropped, I saw the list on Twitter, nobody called me to explain the decision. There are so many things I don’t know and that’s why I don’t want to talk about what went down.”

The 31-year-old former West Bromwich Albion forward, admitted he was devastated by the decision to exclude him from the squad and almost quit the national team.

“After the absence from the World cup, I felt I should just retire from the national team, but I just had a rethink and believed I still have a lot to offer my country, I just put it aside and focus on future,” he told brila.net.

Ideye who last played for the Super Eagles in 2018 world cup qualifiers against Zambia in Ndola back in 2016 concluded that he’s available for selection and still have plenty to offer the national team.
