“I am a big goalkeeper,” says Akpeyi
Super Eagles goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi has declared he is a big goalkeeper after a Man of the Match performance for South African side Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday.
Akpeyi was at his best in Chief’s 1-0 win over Baroka as he produced a series of good saves to justify his place with the Amakhosi.
The former Chippa United shot-stopper replaced Itumeleng Khune who was forced to be substituted in the 26th minute with a suspected groin injury.
Akpeyi told SuperSport after the game: “I’m a big goalkeeper. Whatever is thrown at me I just have to take it and use it as a stepping stone to get to the next level that’s the confidence I came into the team with,” Akpeyi told SuperSport after the game.
“So my teammates were actually encouraging me when I was entering the field it because they have confidence in me as well.
“So I think the result works generally well. And thanks we have the three points to stay on top.”
Akpeyi has not played for the Super Eagles since the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Nigeria.
