Ibrahimovic vows to win with Milan this season

Zlatan Ibrahimovic said he returned to Milan because he ‘feels at home’ with the Rossoneri but stressed he will work to achieve the targets set for his next chapter at San Siro.

After having returned to Milan in January, the Swede made a great impact on the team and the club did everything they could to successfully renew his deal in the fashion capital.

“I have always felt part of Milan, even when I played with other teams,” Zlatan told Milan TV. “They always treated me well from day one.

“When I first arrived in Milan, I smiled. Something I have never done before in my job. I feel at home and I don’t feel like I have been away.”

Zlatan was expected to pick No9 but had decided to wear No11 and says he wanted to wear the shirt he wore during his first stint with the club.

“I chose No11 because the Milan fans know me with this number,” he added. “With No21, I didn’t feel like the Ibrahimovic of the first Milan, so I asked for this number to feel like I used to before.”

Ibrahimovic wanted to help the Diavolo back to old heights.

“I came here to bring Milan back to their level, where they deserve to be. I do everything to achieve the goals I set,” the 38-year-old said. “We have to work and sacrifice, but in the last six months we have shown we have what it takes to reach certain goals.

“We must not forget, however, that we have not won anything. In my head, the goal is always to win something. This season we have to win.”

The Swede returned to Milanello after having reached an agreement until June 2021 and thanked the club and the coach.

“I want to thank the coach and the club for the trust they give me. They did everything to keep me at Milan.

“In the last six months, I have shown that age doesn’t matter. On vacation, I talked a lot with the club and saw my future in Milan.

“I only think about football and helping the team to satisfy the fans.”

Milan ended 2019-20 on an unbeaten run of 13 games and finished sixth in Serie A, securing a place in the qualifying rounds of the Europa League, where they face Shamrock Rovers on September 17.

“Milan must continue how the season ended, we must work and believe, as we have done recently.

“We must play with pride and confidence, remembering that when you put on the Milan shirt it’s a great privilege but at the same time a source of pressure.

“The whole team did well and understood what it takes to get to the top. Now, we must work well from the first day.”

Zlatan hopes to have the fans back at San Siro as soon as possible.

“We have been good in the few last months, but with the fans we would have been even stronger. I hope they can return to San Siro soon.”
