Iceland is sweating on the fitness of Gylfi Sigurdsson fitness ahead of its second group D match against Nigeria on Friday.

“Sigurdsson has played 90 minutes against Argentina and he’s been having problem with his knee, I hope he will come out of it because his experience will be needed on Friday against Nigeria,” said Iceland coach, Heimir Halgrimsson

“He jogged lightly with his personal physio in the morning, before the curtains closed at the training
ground in Kabardinka.

However Sigurdsson said he will be fit for the match against Nigeria. “I am very stubborn, so
when people say you are never going to play in a World Cup because you are from Iceland, I always
believe I would.

“I probably didn’t think through how you would have to qualify and how hard it would be for us. That
makes it even more satisfying that people did not think it could happen. It’s fantastic, especially for
a small country to show that it is possible. I will be fit but I hope we have positive response against
Nigeria on Friday, it will be a massive clash,” he said.

The Everton midfielder played for 90 minutes against Argentina on Saturday which ended 1-1.
