Igahlo gets number 9 jersey at Shenhua

Nigeria international, Odion Ighalo has been unveiled by new club Shanghai Shenhua and handed jersey number 9 as he continues his football career in the Chinese Super League.

A delighted Ighalo who had kept many wondering on his next move after quitting former club Changchun Yatai who went into relegation, said he joined Shenhua folloiwing based on the advice of ex-Super Eagles teammate Obafemi Martins.

Ighalo who would reunite with his former Watford boss Quique Sanchez Flores posted the unveiling ceremony on his Twitter handle on Friday morning.

Shenhua will expect the goals from Ighalo who emerged the highest goal scorer with  36 goals from 55 matches while with Yatai.

He ended the 2018 season as the second top scorer in the Chinese topflight with 21 goals in 28 appearances but his impressive goal return could not save the club from relegation.

During the January transfer window, Ighalo was keen on a return to English Premier League but he has now opted to join the Flower of Shanghai ahead of the 2019 Chinese Super League that begins on March 1.
