Ighalo proud of Eagles’ fighting spirit
Super Eagles forward Odion Ighalo has heaped praises on the team’s never-say-die attitude in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Egypt.
Ighalo was Nigeria’s hero with a brace and assist in the thrilling 3-2 victory over the defending champions Cameroon on Saturday in Alexandria. Ighalo is the Nigeria leading goals scorer in the tournament with three goals.
The Shanghai Greenland Shenhua of China forward, who is impressed with the team’s right attitude in the tournament so far, believes that the big fight continues when they face South Africa in Wednesday’s quarter-final tie at the Cairo International stadium.
“Super proud of this team fighting spirit and never give up attitude but the marathon continues,” Ighalo said.
Following his brace, the 30-year-old is joint top scorer at the tournament with Senegal’s Sadio Mané and he will be able to increase his tally in the quarter-final against South Africa.
Nigeria has won three out of four matches played in the tournament. The coach Genort Rohr tutored-side laboured to a 1-0 win over Burundi in the first group B game and Kenneth Omeruo’s last-minute goal gave Nigeria another slim 1-0 Victoria over Guinea in the second match.
