Ighalo’s return to Eagles not automatic – Rohr

Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr, has revealed that Odion Ighalo’s desire to return to the national team is no longer automatic, saying that he has to play first.

The Franco-German strategist said the technical crew will have to monitor the level of his commitment and see if he’s still good for the national team and from there his chances of returning would be confirmed.

In the message from the Super Eagles  Twitter handle, Rohr stated when asked about Ighalo’s recall: “There’s no reason not to take him if he’s doing well. The question is if he wants to come back.

“We hope so because he’s an experienced player. He can be very useful to his partners. We’re waiting but firstly he has to play.”

Ighalo, 31, quit international football soon after the 2019 AFCON in Egypt, where he finished top scorer.

The striker has most recently said he will consider a return to the Eagles in time for next year’s AFCON and World Cup.

Super Eagles called up captain Ahmed Musa severally while he was playing for another Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr.r.
