Ikpeazu’s goal fails to save Wycombe from demolition

 

Wycombe players of Nigerian descent battled to stop but to no avail what turned out to be massive demolition by Championship side Brentford on Saturday

Brentford made it 18 league games unbeaten with a 7-2 thrashing of Wycombe which had Fred Onyedinma, Uche Ikpeazu and Adebayo Akinfenwa on parade.

Pinnok had opened scoring for Brentford in the 9th only for Ikpeazu to level for Wycombe five minutes later. Ghana’s Tarque Fosu again shot the homers ahead and Muskwe leveled for Wycombe but that was were the ding dong ended before Brentford went on goal harvest to netting another five goals to walk away with a 7-2 victory.

Goals from Ethan Pinnock, Sergi Canos, Josh Dasilva and two apiece for Tariqe Fosu and Ivan Toney did the damage.

Early first-half equalisers from Uche Ikpeazu and Admiral Muskwe had made the promotion-chasers sweat in an end-to-end opening 45 minutes.

Brentford’s Thomas Frank though hoped for a win but certainly didnt expect it was going to be so massive

“Wycombe have had some impressive results against the top sides and have only lost by one or two goals, so we knew what to expect. They used their energy, physicality and aggression very well in the first half.

“But we handled the game very well. It was a physical battle in the first half and we had to compete and earn the right to play our football, which is what we did in the second half.”

Wycombe’s Gareth Ainsworth agreed indeed that on the night the opponents were too hot for comfort “Brentford were super with their finishes” he said
