The duo of ex-internationals Victor Ikpeba and Peter Rufai have joined football enthusiasts to bestow kudos on the senior national team for their remarkable outings in the Africa Cup of Nation’s double header against the Mediterranean knights pf Libya.
The Gernot Rohr led Super Eagles won the hearts of football loving Nigerians by securing the maximum six points at stake in the home and away matches against the north Africans in a match hat was concluded in Tunisia yesterday.
Nigerian won the first leg of
the encounter which was played in Uyo by 4-0 with Eagles striker Odion Ighalo scoring one,,, two,,, three goals in the encounter. He continued the goal haul also with a brace in the away match which the Super Eagles also won 3-2 on Tuesday.
Former Nigerian international Victor Ikpeba who after the match has called on Nigerian football fans to respect Ighalo who he believes have come of age ireckoned that the striker was prolific by scoring a total of 5-goals in two games of four days fixtures.
The former Monaco of France forward who reckoned that for the China based striker to have scored five goals in two back to back matches for the Eagles said “his critics need to cut him some slack and constructively praise his impute in the team.
Ighalo has scored 6 goals for the Eagles at the ongoing 2019 AFCON qualifiers the highest so far for the Super Eagles.
Meanwhile, for Peter Rufai who took much delight on the goalkeeping department said Nigeria should not blame young Goalkeeper Francis Uzoho for conceding two goals in the match yesterday.
He said, “Uzoho is a talent for the future and needs very serious nurturing rather than being thrown into very top competitive level in the national team. Rohr and keepers trainers should make the department more competitive than it is at the moment.”
