Injured Ebuehi to undergo surgery

A fatal blow has been dealt on Nigeria international Tyronne Ebuehi who on Monday ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament while in action for Portuguese side Benfica ahead of the new season.

According to the club’s website, Ebuehi sustained the injury in pre season and would now be operated upon in the coming days with no timeframe giving for his return to action.

“The athlete Tyronne suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament of the left knee and will
undergo surgical intervention in the next few days,” Benfica announced on their website Monday.

As a result of the unfortunate development, Ebuehi has been ruled out of Benfica’s forthcoming match against Fenerbahce next month.

The 22-year-old put an end to talks of playing for the senior team of Holland after making his World Cup debut for Nigeria in the group stage against Iceland in volvograd in Russia.

He joined Benfica from Dutch side ADO Den Haag on a five-year deal this summer.

Born to a Nigerian father and Dutch mother, Ebuehi who plays as a left back featured for the Super
Eagles under head coach Gernot Rohr against Argentina last November in a friendly in Krasnodar in
Russia which Nigeria won 4-2.
