Injury stops Vilakazi from Eagles Clash

Injury has ruled out South Africa international, Sibusiso Vilakazi from next month’s crucial Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Nigeria’s Super Eagles at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.

The midfielder who plays for PSL top side Mamelodi Sundown ruptured his tendon while on international duty against SuperSport in a friendly played last Tuesday.

“I am not sure, but it looks like it’s the rest of the season. He’s got an Achilles tendon injury, so that’s a blow,” Sundowns spokesperson Thulani Thuswa stated on the club’s official website.

Vilakazi played for 65 minutes during South Africa’s 2-0 victory against Nigeria at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo last year June in the opening day of the Africa series.

Nigeria leads Group E with nine points and either a win or draw against South Africa who are second will seal the country’s qualification.
