Inter announce Socios Sponsorship worth €20m a year

For the very first time in twenty-six years, Inter’s jersey will advertise something other than Pirelli.

The club announced that Socios will be stepping into the void left by the Milan-based tire company.

$INTER Fan Tokens will create new experiences for Inter Milan supporters across the world, allowing them to become part of a vibrant digital community on Socios.com. There will be countless engagement opportunities on Socios.com for $INTER Fan Token holders, including the chance to influence the club in a range of important, interactive and fun, polls every season.

Fans will also be able to access exclusive club-related content, put their skills to the test and go up against other fans from around the world in club-related games, competitions and quizzes, competing in global leaderboards to earn once-in-a-lifetime real-life and digital VIP rewards and experiences. The $INTER Fan Token will launch in the near future.

Socios.com is a direct-to-consumer (D2C) platform that leverages blockchain technology to provide the world’s leading sporting organisations with the tools to engage with their global fanbases.

Seeing an Inter kit without the Pirelli logo is going to take a while to get used to but the Socios deal has some favorable characteristics. Inter will be making around €20 million from the crypto-company, twice what it made with Pirelli. That’s the highest sponsorship of any Italian club, excluding companies related to the ownership (Fiorentina and Mediacom, Sassuolo and Mapei, Juventus and Jeep). For Inter to secure such a haul in a pandemic is even more impressive. There’s no word on how long this deal will last and the Socios website mentions only the 2021/22 season in its statement. What really matters, however, is how Socios looks on the front of Inter’s jerseys. Having a logo unique to Inter (“$Inter”) helps it blend into the kit even though it does take up a lot of space. My only major complaint is that sponsor would have looked better in gold rather than white.
