International: Ghana coach Addo eases injury concerns for Brighton fullback Lamptey

Ghana coach Otto Addo has said they were wary of risking Brighton fullback Tariq Lamptey this week.

Lamptey did not feature in Tuesday’s 1-0 friendly win over Nicaragua in Lorca, Spain.

But his national team boss suggested the Black Stars had erred on the side of caution with the decision, which should help club and player.

Addo said Lamptey “felt something” during the warm-up at training ahead of the Nicaragua match.

He was not immediately ruled out of the game but, as it turned out, was not named in the matchday squad.

Addo later said Lamptey would “hopefully” be able to train on his return to Albion.

He added: “We just didn’t want to take that risk and it doesn’t look too bad.”
