ITA and Sport Ireland share clean sport targets in new agreement

The International Testing Agency (ITA) has entered into a collaboration with Sport Ireland. The partnership is designed to enable the exchange of knowledge and information between the organisations and to coordinate anti-doping initiatives more effectively.

As part of its commitment to advancing the global clean sport movement through partnerships with national and regional anti-doping organisations, the ITA has entered into a cooperation agreement with Sport Ireland. Sport Ireland Anti Doping is the national anti-doping organisation of the Republic of Ireland and the implementer of the National Sport Policy.

The ITA’s new partnership with Sport Ireland aims to co-ordinate testing initiatives that will enhance the judicious allocation of resources and the implementation of intelligence-led approaches to clean sport, both nationally and globally.

In addition, the partnership will promote the sharing of information between the ITA and Sport Ireland, which will benefit both potential investigations and intelligence-led doping controls in Ireland, as well as for Irish athletes.

“We are delighted to enter into this cooperation agreement with Sport Ireland, which will further enhance our ability to harmonise testing and share relevant information across Europe,” said ITA Director General Benjamin Cohen. “This new partnership underlines the commitment of both organisations to enhance anti-doping efforts at international and national levels and to work side by side for clean sport.”

Úna May, CEO of Sport Ireland, said, “This collaboration between Sport Ireland and the International Testing Agency marks a pivotal moment in our ongoing efforts to safeguard the integrity of sport.  By joining forces with the ITA, we are not only enhancing our doping control capabilities, but also reinforcing our commitment to fair play and clean competition.

This will allow us to pool expertise and resources, ultimately ensuring that athletes in Ireland and beyond can compete on a level playing field with confidence and integrity.”

The International Testing Agency has established bilateral cooperation agreements with more than 35 National and Regional Anti-Doping Organisations (NADOs/RADOs) and, in recent years, has partnered with more than 60 anti-doping organisations to train and certify their doping control officers.

The ITA believes that by working with anti-doping organisations around the world, the anti-doping community can better support athletes. As such, it will continue to invite to its network any NADO or RADO that wishes to strengthen the synergy between national and international anti-doping efforts.
