Italy will be guaranteed top seed status in the 2022 World Cup qualifying draw if they either win one or draw both the games with Poland and Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Last night’s 4-0 friendly win over Estonia was organised in order to give the Azzurri a better chance of keeping their place in the top 10 FIFA ranking for European nations.
That is crucial to ensuring they will be top seeds in next month’s draw for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
As long as the Nazionale either win one game or draw both the upcoming Nations League encounters with Poland and Bosnia-Herzegovina, then they will be guaranteed top seed status.
The main contenders are Switzerland, who are up against Spain and Ukraine in their Nations League matches.
The World Cup qualifying draw for the European nations is in Zurich on December 7 with 10 groups to be picked.
There are already six guaranteed top seeds: Belgium, France, England, Portugal, Spain and Croatia.
As things stand, Italy, Denmark and Germany are also in there, with the Netherlands, Switzerland and Poland fighting for the final spot.
