ITTF appoints Carpenter as first head of integrity

Sports lawyer, Kevin Carpenter, has been appointed as the International Table Tennis Federation’s (ITTF) first head of integrity.

Carpenter will lead the ITTF’s Integrity Unit, established this year to adjudicate on issues including anti-doping, betting, corruption, discrimination, ethics, manipulation of competitions and safeguarding.

The Briton has advised organisations including the International Olympic Committee and FIFA on integrity matters during his career.

He also sits on several disciplinary panels of sport governing bodies, including the Badminton World Federation, and chairs the independent disciplinary panel for the Esports Integrity Commission.

“I am relishing the opportunity to apply the expertise and knowledge of sports integrity, compliance, investigation and enforcement I have garnered over more than 10 years to protect the integrity of table tennis globally for the ITTF, and for the Unit to become well-respected across the sports sector,” Carpenter said.

The ITTF Integrity Unit’s responsibilities include “investigating and prosecuting infringement of the matters relating to compliance, educating table tennis parties on integrity matters; and otherwise protecting and upholding the integrity of table tennis”, the ITTF said.

It is independent from the worldwide governing body.

The Unit earlier this year dismissed claims that Deputy President Khalil Al-Mohannadi had breached the ITTF’s constitution amid a bitter dispute between the Qatari and outgoing ITTF head Thomas Weikert.
