Iwobi celebrates mum, set to face Southampton tonight

 

Super Eagles and Everton ace Alex Iwobi took time Sunday to celebrate his mum as she added another year to her age.

The former Arsenal ace stopped short of singing the popular song “Sweet mother I no go forget you” by Prince Nico Mbarga & Rocafil Jazz band to mark the special occasion.

He however took to his Instagram and twitter handles to splash photographs of the celebrant who was very generous with smile on her special day. “Happy birthday to my Mum” the Nigerian international who clocks 25 later in May this year said.

Iwobi who signed a five year deal in 2019 to join Everton from the Emirates has so far made over 46 appearances for the side with two goals to his credit. Iwobi was in action for about three minutes after stepping in as late substitute February 20th when Everton shocked Liverpool 2-0 at the Anfield to brink an 11 year old jinx. Prior to the defeat the Liverpool ground had been dubbed Everton nemesis.

Iwobi looks good to start tonight as Everton host Southampton at the Goodison park.

Southampton are desperate to halt a run of eight straight winless Premier League matches.

Everton sit in seventh place on 40 points, while Southampton are placed 14th on 30 points. With 13 matches left, the Toffees trail fifth-placed Chelsea by three points for a spot in the Europa League. Saints are 13 points outside of the tournament spot.

Everton won their last Premier League match 2-0 at Anfield against Liverpool, snapping a three-match winless streak. Southampton’s last Premier League match saw them beaten 3-0 by Leeds United at Elland Road, extending their winless streak to eight.
