Iwobi, teammates fire blank as Man U enjoy 4-0 goal feast

Nigeria international Alex Iwobi and his Everton teammates fired blank Saturday as Manchester United enjoyed goal harvest at the Old Trafford in a pre-season friendly.

Iwobi interestingly was in action for the entire duration of the game an indication that the former Arsenal man is fit and ready for the challenges of the new season which kicks off next weekend.

Mason Greenwood, Harry Maguire, Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot got the goals as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team played their final friendly before the new Premier League season kicks off against Leeds United on Aug. 14.

David de Gea had a couple of nervous moments in United’s goal but it is a result that will only increase the doubts over Everton’s decision to appoint former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez as boss over the summer.

After returning from a week-long training camp in St. Andrews, Scotland, Solskjaer upped his preparations by handing starts to Luke Shaw, Donny van de Beek, Anthony Martial, De Gea, Maguire and Fernandes.

United were gifted their opener by Jordan Pickford after just eight minutes when the England goalkeeper dropped Lucas Digne’s header back at the feet of Greenwood, who just had to tap the ball into an empty net.
