Jamaica earn valuable draw in qualifier against Costa Rica

 

Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz secured their first point of the FIFA World Cup qualifying final round with a 1-1 draw with hosts Costa Rica Wednesday evening.

Jimmy Marin put Costa Rica in front three minutes in with a point-blank header after a mix up in the Jamaican defence.

Jamaica looked the better team in the second half however and a well placed cross from left back Kemar Lawrence found Shamar Nicholson unmarked in the area. He was able to beat Keylor Navas in the Costa Rica goal in the 47th minute .Jamaica however remain eighth and last in the table

Reggae Boyz have qualified for the finals of the FIFA World Cup once  in 1998 after they finished third in the final round of CONCACAF qualifying.

Although they beat Japan 2–1 in their third and final group game, two earlier defeats meant they failed to progress to the Round of 16.

The Jamaicans who earlier lost to Mexico and Panama respectively, will face United states in continuation of the qualifiers for 2022 World cup on October 8 in Texas.
