Jamilu: Playing for Nigeria has always been my wish

Super Eagles defender, Collins Jamilu has hinted that playing for Nigeria has always been his priority and that the thought of representing another country never crossed his mind.

Jamilu played his first game before his countrymen last Saturday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo against the Mediterranean Knights of Libya and he was also dressed in the reverse fixture played in Sfax,Tunisia on Tuesday.

The Paderborn of Germany left-back disclosed that he has always considered it an honour to play for Nigeria and that the day he got his first call-up in the build-up to the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier with Seychelles he was extremely delight and that making his debut against the Lone Star of Liberia gladdened his heart.

“I have been looking forward to it for a long while now and I will say I was happy when the call came through that I had been invited to the national team,” Jamilu told SportingLife.ng.

“I will continue to do my best to ensure that I play regularly in my team so that I can still get the chance to get another call-up. It is a dream come true for me to play for Nigeria and I will continue to cherish every bit of it.’

The defender said he sees his style in the light of the instructions giving to him by his coach and that he could be a defensive or attack-minded player based on the bidding of his coach at any point in time.

He said he is thrilled to be competing for the same spot with Brian Idowu and Elderson Echiejile who were at the last World Cup and that he promises to continue to give his best to ensure that he keeps his first-team role.
