JUST-IN: Liverpool star tests positive for Covid-19

Premier League champions Liverpool have confirmed that star attacker Sadio Mane has returned a positive test for Covid-19.

Jurgen Klopp’s men are set to return to Premier League action on Sunday night, in a meeting with Aston Villa.

The Reds sit pretty atop the English top-flight as things stand, on the back of a perfect start to the defence of their title.

After putting Arsenal to the sword on Monday, though, Liverpool actually fell to defeat last night, in a League Cup meeting with the Gunners.

As such, the Merseysiders will head into proceedings at Villa Park in 48 hours’ time in search of a bounce-back result.

Liverpool, however, in their attempts to do so, will have to make do without Sadio Mane.

As outlined above, in a statement released a short time ago, the Anfield giants confirmed that wide-man Mane has tested positive for Covid-19.

The Senegalese international is therefore set for a period in self-isolation, and will not be available to feature this weekend:

‘The forward, who started and scored in Monday’s 3-1 victory over Arsenal, has displayed minor symptoms of the virus but feels in good health overall.’

‘However, Liverpool Football Club are – and will continue to – follow all protocols relating to COVID-19 and Mane will self-isolate for the required period of time.’

The individual in question was Thiago Alcantara, with the Reds’ summer arrival another member of Jurgen Klopp’s squad whom the German will be unable to call upon versus Villa:
