JUST IN: NFF appoints Portuguese Jose Peseiro as Eagles coach

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has appointed Portuguese Jose Peseiro as new coach for the super Eagles barely 11 days to the kickoff of the nations Cup in Cameroon.  Jose Peseiro handled Venezuela national team in the past is expected to arrive the country on January 2 to resume duty.  By implication the new coach will interact with the team at their Abuja camp for few days before jetting out to Garoua where the Eagles will face Egypt, Sudan and Guinea Bissau in the group stage of the continental fiesta.

Peseiro is a direct recommendation by Roma Coach Jose Mourinho who had earlier been approached alongside other legion of coaches by the Glass House for the job following the sacking of German tactician Gernot Rohr. Mourinho considered his compatriot Peseiro as the right man for the Eagles job. Some have queried his choice for the job insisting that he did not achieve much with the Venezuelan team and at most could be at par with Rohr who was sent packing for what a section of the Glass House dubbed poor result.

Apparently not ready to be drawn into chicken and egg argument with those who query the choice the NFF said the new man will be an

“observer” at the AFCON in Cameroon with his first assignment being the 2022 FIFA World Cup final playoffs in March.
