Juventus reconsider Morata option

Juventus could send Alvaro Morata back to Atletico Madrid just one year into his loan spell.

The 28-year-old arrived this season on a loan deal worth €10m, with an option to purchase for €45m in 2021.

There is also another option allowing them to extend the loan for another €10m this summer, and the option to buy would then be worth €35m in 2022.

However, both La Gazzetta dello Sport and Diario AS – as reported by Football Espana – suggest Juve are getting cold feet over the cost of this operation.

He had been a certainty to remain in January, but recent poor form from the club, his injury and health issues as well as the financial constraints on the club are all raising doubts.

Although an extension of the loan at another €10m is possible, that could leave Juventus paying €20m over two years with nothing to show for it at the end.

A great deal depends on whether the Bianconeri qualify for the Champions League, which is by no means certain right now.
