Kamaru Usman is the best welterweight fighter of all time – UFC boss

United Fighting Company (UFC) CEO, Dana White, stated that Karumu Usman could become one of the greatest in the history of the sport.

Usman, The Nigerian Nightmare, defeated rival Colby Covington at Madison Square Garden in New York on Sunday to retain his welterweight title.

It was Usman’s second victory over Covington after knocking him out in December 2019.

Covington pushed Usman all the way, but the champion got the decision — with the three judges scoring the fought 48-47, 48-47, and 49-46.

Speaking after the fight, White admitted that the challenger was very tight, but Kamaru is a level higher at the moment.

He added that the Edo State-born MMA fighter is also on his way to becoming the greatest of all time.

“Usman is the best ever welterweight of all time. He is on his way to possibly greatest of all time status and Colby Covington was one tough dude, he is so tough,” White said.

In another main event fight, Rose Namajunas defeated Zhang Weili in what was a hard-fought contest over five rounds, while Justin Gaethje defeated Michael Chandler in their curtain-raiser lightweight bout.

Kamaru Usman, Rose Namajunas, and Justin Gaethje trained under the watchful eyes of one man, Trevor Whitman.
