Kane admits Europa League exit was ‘embarrassing’ for Tottenham stars

Harry Kane admits Tottenham’s shock Europa League exit at the hands of Dinamo Zagreb was “embarrassing” for the players.

Spurs crashed out of Europe in humiliating fashion on Thursday night after losing 3-0 in Croatia having been 2-0 up from the first leg.

Jose Mourinho blasted the attitude of the players and Kane admits they “dropped below our standards in that aspect” in defeats against Dinamo and Arsenal.

Tottenham bounced back from their European humiliation with a 2-0 win at Aston Villa to ease some of the pressure on Jose Mourinho.

After the game, Kane admitted their defeat against Dinamo was unacceptable.

“Whenever you go through a couple of difficult games like we have, obviously a London derby then going out of the Europa League in that fashion was embarrassing for us as players,” the striker told Sky Sports.

“The only way we can give back to the fans, give back to the club, is to get back on the pitch and show what we are made of.

“The last couple of games have not been good enough in all areas. We knew we had to bounce back before the international break and the boys put in a great shift and we deserved it. You never want to go away with a loss, especially after the week we have had.

“What was different today? I think the attitude. The last couple of games we have dropped below our standards in that aspect. Working hard together all in the same direction. We just lost a bit of that and it was nice to get that back today.

“You saw everyone fighting, putting their bodies on the line and that is what we are going to need between now and the end of the season if we want to give that top four a push.”
