Kane out to set new EPL record against Burnley

Tottenham Hotspur attacker Harry Kane will be out to set a new Premier League record when the Lilywhites welcome Burnley to North London for Sunday’s top-flight battle.

The England skipper ensured that he would not go three games without a goal against Arsenal with a clinical brace in Thursday’s crucial 3-0 derby victory.

Kane struck from the penalty spot before peeling away at the back post to head home his side’s second – his 14th and 15th goals of the Premier League season.

The 28-year-old has now amassed a total of 181 strikes in the competition, with 70 of those strikes coming on Saturdays and 69 on Sundays.

A slice of English football history is therefore on the line for Kane this weekend, as he could become the first player ever to score 70 Premier League goals on two different days of the week.

Kane’s recent record against Burnley makes for pleasant reading as he aims to create Premier League history, with the striker contributing to 11 goals in his last 11 top-flight meetings with the Clarets.

The England captain has also made the net ripple seven times in his last seven meetings with Burnley, although he drew a blank in a 1-0 Turf Moor defeat back in February.

Furthermore, Kane has found the back of the net in both of his last home games with the Clarets, and not since the 1974-75 campaign have the Lilywhites suffered a league home defeat to Burnley.
