Nwankwo won the U-17 World Cup with Nigeria in 1993 and was billed to play for Nigeria at the U20 World Cup which the country was closed to hosting in 1995 before the championship was taking to Qatar after FIFA cited meningitis among the reasons it was shifted to Qatar.

Speaking with SportingLife.ng yesterday Kanu opined that all Nigerian representatives must have it in mind that they can beat any team with hard work and dedication and he tasked the Flying Eagles to go into the tie with Ghana and secure the valuable win.

He said he was surprised that Niger Republic beat Ghana and even held Nigeria to a draw to advance to the semi final while only one team between Nigeria and Ghana will take the remaining slot from the group.

“We have what we call the Nigerian spirits that we must all display anytime we have the opportunity to represent Nigeria,” Kanu told SportingLife.ng.
