Klopp hails ‘world class’ Salah after goal and assist vs City

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has heaped praise on Mohamed Salah after his goal and assist in Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Manchester City.

Salah put the Reds 2-1 up in the 76th minute, scoring a wonderful solo goal, 17 minutes after setting Sadio Mane up for the opening goal.

Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden were on target for the Premier League champions as the points were shared at Anfield.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Klopp hailed the Egyptian superstar: “It is not the first goal (Salah) has scored like this, I think against Napoli and Tottenham were similar goals but it is pure world class, what a player. He set up the first goal as well for Sadio and it was great goal as well.”

He also told Sky Sports: “If Leo Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo score that goal then the world says yes because it’s world class. He (Salah) is one of the best players in the world, that’s how it is.”

The German was disappointed with his side’s first half display. The visitors dominated proceedings in the opening 45 and Pep Guardiola would have been the happier of the two managers at the interval.

“Very average first half from us,” Klopp added.

“Probably less than average, we were too passive with and without the ball and played right into City’s hands. That was the worst half we have played against them.

“I was more than pleased when I heard the whistle for half time because we had to adjust a lot of things and we did.

“Second half completely different. If we only played the second half I would have loved to have won but with the first half I am happy with the point.”
