Klopp unsure of Salah after head injury

Jurgen Klopp offered a positive update on Mohamed Salah after a head injury forced the Liverpool forward out of Saturday evening’s 3-2 win over Newcastle United.

With just over an hour gone at St James’ Park, the Egyptian was involved in a sickening clash with Magpies goalkeeper Martin Dubravka that resulted in him being taken from the field on a stretcher.

However, Klopp has revealed that his No.11 did not require a hospital visit, and was well enough to watch the remainder of the game in the dressing room.

He said: “He got the hip of the goalie in his head and then was on the ground.

“The doctor had to make a decision – on the pitch or off the pitch – and the decision was off the pitch and we accept that of course.

“When we came in, he was sitting in the dressing room and watching the game, or had watched the game.

“He was then fine but of course we have to wait. He got a proper knock in that situation.”

The German was less optimistic about Roberto Firmino’s fitness, however.

The Liverpool striker was left out of the trip to Tyneside due to a groin injury, which Klopp does not expect to clear up before Tuesday’s game against Barcelona.
