La Liga giants are Europe’s highest paying clubs
Barcelona and Real Madrid are the two teams that invest more in players’ salaries than any other club across all the major sports around the world.
The two LaLiga Santander powerhouses pay wages that exceed those of NBA, NFL, MLB and even Premier League sides.
The 2019 Global Sports Salaries Survey has analysed the salaries of 350 teams from eight different sports, and the two Spanish clubs top their charts.
In the Spanish topflight, LaLiga the average salary per player at Barcelona reaches the 11.5 million euros per year, while Lionel Messi’s annual gross wage exceeds 58m euros.
Real Madrid come a close second with an average of 10m euros per player, while Atletico Madrid have made a huge leap from the 52nd position to the 17th place in the global team ranking.
Osasuna sit in the bottom of the rankings table in LaLiga Santander with an average payroll of 423,000 euros per player.
In the Premier League, Manchester City and Manchester United top the wages charts, with League leaders Liverpool coming next.
However, no English team are part of the top 10 in the global ranking, while Sheffield United, who spend less than any other club in the country in wages, double the average salary at Osasuna, who rank bottom in terms of wages in LaLiga Santander.
Serie A salaries
Juventus rank third in the global team ranking as they spend as many as 9.4 million euros per player in terms of salaries.
The Old Lady, who are followed by Roma and Inter in the Serie A salaries ranking, have signed several elite players in the last couple of years.
Ligue 1 wages
In France, there is a huge gap between Paris Saint Germain and Monaco, who sit second in the Ligue 1 salaries ranking.

The capital club spend 8.5m euros per player, while the latter pay their footballers an average 2.6m per year.
Bundesliga salaries
An average salary per player at Bayern Munich is 7.5m euros per year, and the German side are placed in sixth position across the five major leagues in terms of wages.
