La Liga: Zidane breaks silence on reported fall-out with Marcelo

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has responded to reports that Marcelo was dropped after an argument between the pair.

Marcelo was absent as Los Blancos thrashed Granada 4-1 to keep their LaLiga title hopes alive with two rounds of matches to play.

Goal had reported that the Brazilian defender had argument with Zidane after becoming annoyed with the Frenchman’s tactics and starting line-up through the 2020/21 campaign.

However, Zidane insists Marcelo’s omission was purely down to the player picking up an injury.

“He had a [injury] problem and we didn’t want to risk him,” Zidane said, as per Marca.

“It’s nothing more than that.”

Marvin Park, who deputised for Marcelo, made quite the impression as Ferland Mendy was also missing on the night.

“[Miguel], Marvin and the whole team did very well,” Zidane said.

“We deserved to win. Miguel played because neither Ferland nor Marcelo were there and he did phenomenally well.

“I’m happy for him. He’s a Real Madrid player.”
