Lack of friendlies won’t affect Falcons–Chikwelu

Super Falcons captain Rita Chikwelu has said the lack of quality friendly matches would not affect the team’s performance at the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) which gets underway in Ghana from November 17.

The 30-year-old who teamed up with her teammates at their Jubilee Chalets and Resorts in Epe on Tuesday appears not bothered that the last time the team played a competitive match was in June.

“We are preparing hard and not worried about playing top friendly games. I can assure you that will not affect us at the tournamemt,” said Chikwelu at a media parley on Thursday.

The Falcons have not played any competitive match since June when they defeated Gambia 7-0 over two legs to qualify for the competition.

Chikwelu who captained the Falcons to the last edition in Cameroon two years ago also had kind words to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for providing a good camping facility for the team.

#TotalAWCON18 title defence, said:” We are happy being here and very grateful for @thenff and people of Lagos for offering us this beautiful facility. Our target in Ghana is to win the tournament again.”
