Laporta has offered Messi contract renewal until 2024 – report
According to reports from ‘ESPN’, Joan Laporta may have presented Leo Messi with a contract renewal of three seasons. Two of them would be guaranteed and the third would be optional. If Messi plays out this contract until completion, he would finish with the club at 37-years-old.
Despite the economic state of the club and the fact that the controversial European Super League continues to be favoured by the Catalan side, the future of Leo Messi hasn’t taken a back-seat in the plans of the side.
The Argentine star’s contract runs out at the end of the season, and he has reportedly asked his father to leave the negotiations of his future until the end of the season, as the number 10 doesn’t want to be distracted in the fight for the La Liga title.
This doesn’t mean that Joan Laporta and his team haven’t been working overtime to try and convince their star to continue with the club, and it seems that an offer has been made to tie up Messi so that he will continue his career at the Camp Nou.
As ‘ESPN’ reports, Barcelona – with the president at the forefront – have offered the 33-year-old Argentine a contract renewal of three seasons.
Information coming from the aforementioned source suggests that two seasons would be fixed and the third would be optional. That being said – although the figures are unknown – the offer would include a significant wage cut, given that the Catalan side can’t maintain Messi’s current demands due to their fragile economic state.

Similarly, looking to continue with the club, Messi would accept a reduced offer if that would allow Barcelona to develop their current project with other players of a high level – with names such as Neymar and Erling Haaland being the most mentioned around the Camp Nou.
If he accepts, the Argentine would remain at the club until the end of the 2023/24 season. In other words, the number 10 would finish his contract with Barca at 37-years-of-age.
