Super Eagles midfield powerhouse, Oghenekaro Etebo was left gutted at the weekend after a late goal condemned Las Palmas to defeat against nine-man Levante.

As reported by SportingLife last week, the 22-year-old returned to action following the injury that kept him out of the matches against Deportivo La Couruna, Real Madrid and international friendlies against Poland and Serbia.

Etebo slotted back into midfield while a rare start was handed to Imoh Ezekiel by Las Palmas manager Paco Jemez. But it was the home side that went in front through Coke as the first half ended 1-0.

The visitors equalised via  David Garcia and thought they had momentum when goalscorer Coke was sent off for a second yellow card offense in the 86th minute but their heart’s were broken when Jose Campana popped up to score in the 90th minute.

That goal proved crucial as the home side held on for the vital three points despite having Ruben Rochina sent off with a straight red card.

An obviously disappointed Etebo posted on his instagram wall after the match, he wrote: ‘Terrible way to lose in the last minutes in this important game. We have not given up hope I promise!’

The defeat leaves Las Palmas in 19th position with 21points while Levante moves further away from the relegation zone in 17th place with 31points.
