Lewandoski open minded about future amidst Chelsea interest
Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski admits he is “open-minded” over his future, amid talk of a move to Chelsea this summer.
The striker is set to lead the line for Poland at Euro 2020, but has refused to rule out the prospect of leaving the German giants after the international tournament.
Despite beating Manchester City to win the Champions League on Saturday, Thomas Tuchel is reportedly set to be handed a big pot of transfer money this summer to improve his Chelsea squad; a new striker is thought to be their top priority.
Timo Werner has failed to deliver the goals expected of him in his first season with the club, leading the Blues to be linked with a variety of top striking talent.
Tottenham star Harry Kane and Erling Haaland of Borussia Dortmund have been linked, along with former Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku.
But a move for any of those three forwards would likely represent a huge transfer outlay and despite Lewandowski being the top scorer in Europe this season, he could be a cheaper option.
The striker scored a ridiculous 41 goals in 29 Bundesliga games this season, meaning he smashed through the record Gerd Muller set back in the 1971/72 campaign, but at 32, he would be a shorter term option than the likes of Lukaku and therefore could be signed for significantly less.
And Sky Germany claimed earlier this month that Marina Granovskaia ‘made contact’ with Lewandowksi over a move to west London.
Although Lewandowski has not spoken directly about his future, he has added fuel to the transfer fire through not ruling out a Bayern exit.
He told Canal+: “I remain open-minded. I feel very good at Bayern, the city is superb, it’s a great club.
“I am always curious to learn a new language, a new culture. But whether it will be in football or after my career, even I don’t know.”
Werner could well be the man Lewandowski would replace in the Chelsea side, should he arrive at Stamford Bridge.

And the former RB Leipzig striker is well aware of his counterpart’s goalscoring antics.
“You can’t score every game unless your name is Robert Lewandowski,” Werner joked last year. “When I score two in Berlin, he scores two against Dortmund and I ask myself when he’ll stop.
