Liverpool 0-0 Manchester City: Mahrez misses penalty

It wasn’t the result expected from two of the Premier League’s most attacking teams, but it wasn’t completely without drama.

Mancherster City Riyad Mahrez had the chance to win the game late on for after Leroy Sane was fouled in the box by Liverpool’s Virgil Van Dijk.

The former Leicester man pulled rank over Gabriel Jesus before blazing his spot kick over the crossbar. This is Mahrez’s 4th penalty miss in the last six.

Earlier in the match Sergio Aguero has strong appeals for a penalty waved away after he was brought down by Dejan Lovren.

Mohamed Salah had Liverpool’s best chance but couldn’t hit the target as his barren run continues.

Tempers flared after a fast and frantic first half of the Anfield.

Liverpool started the brighter, but failed to turn their tenacity into chances.

James Milner had to be replaced by Naby Keita after picking up an injury as City made their way back into the game.

City had strong appeals for a penalty turned down by Martin Atkinson when Sergio Aguero was felled by Dejan Lovren in the box.

Aguero had is back to goal when he was tripped by the Croatian, by Atkinson deemed the contact insufficient to award the spot kick.

Fernandinho and Sadio Mane were then involved in a fiesty exchange as tackles came in from either side.

All the second half actions came and ended without breaking the deadlock after 90 minutes.
