Liverpool and 10-man Chelsea share points after penalty drama at Anfield

A Mohammed Salah penalty just before half-time cancelled out a Kai Havertz header as Liverpool and Chelsea shared the spoils at Anfield with a fiery 1-1 Premier League draw on Saturday,

It was a heated contest as both sets of players were spurred by a boisterous crowd, but a draw was a fair result in the end.

Chelsea bossed the first half and deserved their lead on 22 minutes when Havertz looped a header up and over Allisson.

They looked in control of the tie until Reece James was adjudged to have handled the ball on the line and in doing so prevented a Sadio Mane goal.

Referee Anthony Taylor had little choice but to show the England international a red card, much to Chelsea’s fury.

Salah converted and a mini scuffle broke out, and the half-time whistle couldn’t have come at a better time.

The second half was marked by Liverpool commanding the ball and Chelsea looking to break when possible. Alisson was rarely tested again but Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy pulled off a string of tidy saves from Virgil van Dijk and Fabinho, but these efforts all came from range.

Jordan Henderson curled one from 30 yards, though not enough to squeeze it inside the far post.

After the red card Thomas Tuchel would have settled for a point, while Jurgen Klopp might have taken a share of the spoils before the opening whistle.
