Liverpool on course to  hijack £50m deal for Porto winger Diaz

Liverpool are closing in on the signing of Luis Diaz’ after hijacking Tottenham’s move for the Porto and Colombia winger.

The deal to take Diaz to Anfield will reportedly be worth £37.5million with £12.5m in add-ons.

But Diaz’s preference was to sign for Liverpool and he held out for the move in order to play Champions League football.

Manchester United had also been linked with a move for Diaz, who rejected a move to Everton last year in exchange for his compatriot James Rodriguez.

Diaz will bolster the attacking options available to Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool pursue Manchester City at the top of the Premier League and try to win the Champions League and the domestic cups.

However, O Jogo report it hasn’t yet been decided whether Diaz will make the move to Liverpool immediately or at the end of the season.

His presence will also shake up the ageing forward line of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane, who are all approaching 30 and the final year of their contracts.

They have already faced Diaz in the Champions League this season, beating Porto both home and away in the group stage.

Diaz had a release clause of £68m at Porto but Liverpool have been able to secure a deal for just over half that though the add-ons will push that higher.

He is currently away on international duty with Colombia, who play Peru in their next World Cup qualifier in Barranquilla on Friday.
