Lookman reflects on Africa’s best player award, confident in Super Eagles’ quality

Ademola Lookman has shared thoughts on being crowned Africa’s best player, following in the footsteps of Victor Osimhen, who won the award last year.

Speaking to NFF TV, the Atalanta winger described the recognition as a privilege and an honor.

“It’s a blessing, it’s a pleasure, and most definitely an honour, to be among the people here who have won the award, like my teammate last year, Osimhen, my brother,” Lookman stated.

“To be able to be crowned this is a blessing. It’s something I hold with great honour and great respect.”

Lookman is in Kigali with the Super Eagles, preparing for their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Rwanda’s Amavubi. Nigeria is still searching for its first win in Group C, having recorded three draws and one defeat in four matches.

Despite the slow start, Lookman expressed confidence in the team’s ability to turn things around.

“Everybody knows the level of the players that we have here. It’s an incredible group of players, and most importantly, they’re good people. Everyone has the same objective – to want to win, and that’s very important,” he said.

“The group is together, very tight-knit, so that’s the winning formula. Everybody’s positive, we’ve had two good training sessions. So we’re looking forward to putting out a great performance.”
