Man City keeper Ederson: I’ll replace De Bruyne in midfield!

Ederson has joked about replacing Manchester City teammate Kevin De Bruyne in midfield.

The goalkeeper has been lauded for his technical ability since joining City in 2017.

City have a history of fielding goalkeepers as outfield players, including David James playing as a striker against Middlesbrough in 2005.

When discussing James’ cameo against Boro, Ederson told the club’s website: “If I were to go outfield like this, I would not ask to be a striker.

“I would prefer to play in the midfield. In Kevin’s place!

“If I were to choose, if someone asked me to play, I would say: ‘Take off De Bruyne and play me!’ It would not change anything!”
