Solskjaer was afforded a heroes’ reception as he returned to Old Trafford for the first time since succeeding Jose Mourinho as interim boss.

He made three changes to his team with David De Gea handed the captaincy in Ashley Young’s absence from the starting XI.

But United soon picked up from where they left off in their 5-1 win over Cardiff as Nemanja Matic put them in front on 28 minutes.

The France World Cup winner celebrated his second on 78 before Mathias Zanka scored a late consolation for the struggling Terriers on 88.
