Man Utd close to sealing Daniel Bachmann deal

Manchester United are reportedly in talks to sign Austrian goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann from Watford.

The Red Devils are on the hunt for a new backup stopper after veteran Lee Grant retired, while normal No.2 Dean Henderson is closing in on a switch to Nottingham Forest.

That leaves just Tom Heaton as understudy to David de Gea and Erik ten Hag wants another keeper on board.

A move for Hornets star Bachmann has been mooted for some weeks. And now transfer insider Romano has confirmed that a transfer to United is close.

Watford are moving on from several of the senior players after suffering relegation last season.

Bachmann is not expected to come in and challenge De Gea for the first-team job. However, aged 27, he will be a more than useful second or third-strong stopper.

All that remains is for the two clubs to agree a fee, with Watford only interested in a permanent transfer.

Bachmann spent the majority of last season as backup to Ben Foster so is well versed in that role.

The Austria international started his career in England at Stoke but never played a league game for the Potters.

After several loan moves he eventually moved to Vicarage Road in 2017. In total he has made 41 appearances across all competitions for the Foxes.
