Man Utd ready to table €35m bid to sign Ugarte

Manchester United are willing to table a €35 million bid to sign Manuel Ugarte, who seems keen on a switch to the Premier League.

The PSG midfielder is keen to play in the Premier League, as the Red Devils could bring the Uruguayan as one of their essential midfield additions this summer.

Manuel Ugarte had a strange season at PSG. He was initially seen as the ideal midfielder in Luis Enrique’s system, but in the second phase of the season, he faded away. The midfielder is a key part of Marcelo Beisla’s Uruguayan setup, but there are doubts about his future in Paris.

Uruguayan outlet Traspasos insists Manchester United has concrete interest, with some earlier suggestions about the midfielder being offered to the Red Devils. Erik ten Hag reportedly views the midfielder as a priority signing, as Manchester United are now considering making a €35 million offer for the 23-year-old Ligue 1-winning midfielder.

Reports stated that Manchester United had already failed with an informal bid, which confirms their interest in the Uruguayan. However, the Red Devils are only making their first attempt for the midfielder, although there are doubts whether they can get him for the price mentioned.

PSG signed Ugarte by paying his full release clause worth €60 million to Sporting CP last summer. They managed to sneer him away from under Chelsea’s noses, who are still interested in the Uruguayan. There is no reason for PSG to lower their asking price and take a hit of nearly €25 million on a player clearly seen as valuable by the likes of Manchester United.

Erik ten Hag wants critical reinforcements to build his midfield, which may come at the cost of letting Casemiro leave. They are linked with multiple options, but the Dutchman must get it right to balance the act. Someone like Joao Neves cannot complete the setup, as his pairing with young Kobbie Mainoo seems unbalanced.

Hence, someone like Ugarte would make complete sense, although the Red Devils must pay a higher fee to sign the 23-year-old Ligue 1-winning midfielder. PSG are likely to turn down a €35 million bid without any hesitation, as they might demand even more than the €60 million they paid for the Uruguayan.
