Man Utd receive Varane transfer blow

Manchester United’s hopes of making Raphael Varane their marquee summer signing have received a major blow as Paris Saint-Germain have joined the chase for the Frenchman, according to reports in Spain.

Real Madrid centre-back Varane has been billed as the ideal partner for Harry Maguire and has been on the Red Devils’ radar for many years.

The 28-year-old has one year remaining on his Los Blancos contract and is believed to be available for a fee in the region of £43million.

United are certainly able to meet this price tag, but face competition for Varane’s signature from Ligue 1 giants PSG.

That’s according to Marca , which claims the French club have submitted an enquiry about the former Lens star.

Varane has spent a glittering decade on Real Madrid’s books and the World Cup winner certainly has the quality to make a big impression in the Premier League.

But recent murmurings suggest he would favour a return to his homeland, while PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino is keen to strengthen his options at centre-back.

Wherever he ends up, Varane appears to be edging closer to an exit, presenting Carlo Ancelotti with a problem.
