Manchester City duo Mahrez and Laporte test Positive to Covid-19

Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez and defender Aymeric Laporte have tested positive for Covid-19.

Algeria’s Mahrez, 29, and Frenchman Laporte, 24, will not train with their team-mates while they self-isolate in line with UK government and Premier League rules.

Manchester City say neither player was displaying symptoms of coronavirus.

Pep Guardiola’s side play Wolverhampton Wanderers in their first fixture of the new league season on 21 September.

One of the conditions of the premier league re-start is continuous testing of players every two weeks even as the matches will continue to hold on empty stadium.

League runners-up and Carabao Cup holders Manchester City were drawn to face either Bournemouth or Crystal Palace in the third round of the championship billed for 22/23 September.

Should Man City reclaim the Caraboa Cup in the finals billed for Wembley February next year, they would have clinched the title a record four times in a row.
