Manchester United eyeing move for £35m-rated Premier League winger

The Sun reports that the Reds are monitoring the progress of the 19-year-old, who the club let go from their academy five years ago when he was just 14.

It is believed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has sent scouts to several Burnley games this season to watch the England u21 international, who has been one of Sean Dyche’s standout performers.

The report claims Burnley value the youngster at around £35m, but would be reluctant to sell if an offer came in for their prized asset.Manchester United eyeing move for £35m-rated Premier League winger

Despite being being released by the club as a teenager, Rochdale born McNeil remains a huge Manchester United fan so would clearly be keen on a return.

ESPN report that Solskjaer has prioritised the signing of a right-midfielder and McNeil can play anywhere across the forward line.

United need to invest in the squad in the January transfer window, where it is notoriously difficult to pull off deals. McNeil would be a far more realistic signing than other wingers that have been mentioned such as Jadon Sancho.

However, even if Solskjaer is prepared to sign McNeil, there will be questions as to whether this is a significant enough upgrade on his current options.

The Norwegian already has the likes of talented youngsters Mason Greenwood and Angel Gomes waiting patiently for more first-team minutes and the Reds need proven quality to considerably strengthen and become more potent in attack.
