Manchester United ‘lose £200m kit deal due to fan protests’
Manchester United are set to miss out on a new £200m kit deal in the wake of protests towards the Glazer family.
Red Devils supporters broke onto the Old Trafford pitch in a demonstration against the club’s owners before their meeting with Liverpool on May 2, which was ultimately postponed.
A police officer was left needing emergency treatment and one arrest has been made following the protests, and according to The Observer, United have now lost a new training kit deal worth £200m.
The report claims that Myprotein – a sports nutrition company owned by The Hut Group – were due to replace United’s current training kit sponsor AON, but The Hut Group have now pulled out of the deal.
With an anonymous group urging a boycott of United’s existing partners – such as Adidas and TAG Heuer – on Twitter, The Hut Group were understood to be concerned about the potential backlash that they could have faced.
Man United co-chairman Joel Glazer has vowed to improve communication with supporters following the protests and the Super League debacle.
