Manchester United ready to spend £50million on Declan Rice

Manchester United are reportedly ready to break the bank to sign Declan Rice from West Ham.

The England international has been linked with United after enjoying a fine breakthrough season in the Premier League for the Hammers, including in their 3-1 win over United in September.

However, if United want to sign the 20-year-old, the Irish Independent say that West Ham would likely demand a fee in excess of £50million for the youngster.

The report also says Nemanja Matic’s future at United will be in doubt if Rice arrives, as the club may look to recoup some of the transfer fee.

Chelsea are also said to be monitoring Rice, and manager Maurizio Sarri this week praised his defensive abilities and noted his improvement this season.

Meanwhile, United have been scouting Thomas Meunier all season as they look to shore up their defence this summer, according to a report in The Sun.

The report claims there are doubts £19m-signing Diogo Dalot can make the position his own and United have been looking at the PSG defender as an alternative.

Solskjaer refused to rule out any positions when he spoke about how he would strengthen the squad in the summer. Meunier has made 28 appearances for PSG this season and notched an impressive five goals and seven assists.
