Manny Pacquiao: Time to focus on Presidential bid?

Quitting the stage when the ovation is loudest is considered the way to go by many.

The reason for this stand is the feeling that staying longer than necessary could put a dent on impressive record

That legendary boxer Manny Pacquiao has achieved everything he needs to achieve in the ring is to put it mildly. There is no doubt that a total of 72 fights, 62 wins 39 by knock out eight losses and two draws is wonderful record which can only be achieved by the best in the business.

Pacquiao who doubles as Senator back home in the Philippines and whose philanthropic gestures reportedly speaks volume however lost his fight against

Yordenis Ugas recently and that did not go down well with some of his fans. The defeat could be the 42-year-old’s final fight in his 26-year boxing career and some even wish he should have ignored the fight after all.

Pacquiao who is in the running for Presidential election in the Philippines has also hinted that he might be retiring from the ring.

The 42-year-old took Ugas through all 12 rounds but the judges unanimously voted the Cuban as the winner in Las Vegas, with the scorecard reading 115-113 116-112 116-112 in favour of Pacquiao’s opponent.

‘In the future, you may not see Manny Pacquiao fight again in the ring,’ said the 42-year-old after the Ugas clash. ‘I don’t know. But for how many decades, I’m so happy with what I’ve done in boxing.

‘I contribute a record in boxing also and to make boxing the top. And especially bring honour to my country and the Filipino people. I’m so proud to be a Filipino and thankful to all the fans all over the world.

‘I don’t know if I’ll fight again. Let me relax and think about it. I want to help my people.’

Pacquiao claimed in his post-fight interview that his legs were too tight during the contest and he had a ‘hard time’ in the ring, but cut out the excuses by the time he got to his press conference.

‘I did my best tonight, but my best wasn’t good enough,’ said the Filipino boxer. ‘No excuses. I wanted to fight for the title tonight in the ring. And tonight, the champion’s name is Ugas.’

Manny Pacquiao remains a boxing legend despite the Uga’s flash and many of his fans believe his achievement speaks volume and for those happy about his efforts both in and off the ring, it is time to forget the ring and focus on the Presidential bid.

No gain saying that if he does win according to his fans, development of younger boxers in Philippine will be taken to greater heights among other goodies.
