Marc Brys may replace Finidi as Eagles Coach

Nigeria Football Federation want to appoint a foreign coach for the national team in the wake of the Super Eagles sluggish start to the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

After four rounds of matches in Group C, the Super Eagles find themselves in fifth place after a point from a possible six in the June internationals against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana and Republic of Benin’s Cheetahs.

The Super Eagles were forced to a 1-1 draw by South Africa before suffering a humiliating 2-1 loss to the Cheetahs in a neutral venue, Abidjan in Ivory Coast.

Nigeria legend Finidi George, who replaced Jose Peseiro as head coach of the national team, has thrown in the towel following the decision of the Nigerian Federation to appoint an expatriate Technical Adviser.

According to Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad, the Nigerian Federation are considering current Cameroon national team coach  Marc Brys as a potential replacement for Finidi.

Brys and Samuel Eto’o, Cameroon’s FA chief, are often at loggerheads, and the Belgian was dismissed by the former Barcelona star last month, only to be reinstated few days before the World Cup qualifiers against Angola and Cape Verde.

As per the report, the 62-year-old has not denied the rumours linking him with the vacant Nigeria job but has made it clear he feels good with Cameroon despite the ongoing feud with the Fecafoot president.

Marc Brys has previously coached Germinal Beerschot, Mouscron, FC Eindhoven, Den Bosch, KV Mechelen, Al-Faisaly FC, Al-Raed, Sint-Truiden and OH Leuven.
